「Life education」
Happy New Year all:

I am really excited about the new year and have already begun training my clients who are also equally excited to get better.
I was talking to my wife the other day about dreams and goals. We talked about it as we were discussing Japan and parents. I was asking her why she felt that Japanese didn't want to send their children to train here in America, but before she answered I told her my thoughts to see if she agreed. I told her that as I have listened to her and was with her as we spoke to Japanese parents when we were there in Japan. I heard many times from Japanese parents that they could not see their child's dream and so it is too expensive to send their child to the states to train because they don't think their child will ever be an NBA player. So here is my opinion on the matter:

1. When I train kids I don't train them to be NBA players, I train them to be the best athlete they can be and I never talk about them being an NBA player. I don't even talk to my son about being an NBA player. That is such a long ways away and many things would have to happen for him to make it that far. However, if that is his dream and his goal (and they are) then I am there to support his dreams. They are not my dreams they are his and as his parents my wife and I want to help him with his dreams help him to be successful in life and if he doesn't make it into the NBA we have still taught him many things to help prepare him for life.

A. Teamwork- without teamwork he will have a difficult time once he starts working in The workforce and so basketball has a common goal and that is to win, and in order to win you have to depend on your teammates and they also have to depend on you to do your job.

B. Compete- I teach kids how to compete at the highest level as life is a big competition and once they leave college they will have to compete for the best jobs and still use number one teamwork and competition to win and compete.

C. Patience-The journey to becoming a great basketball player and a great person doesn't happen in a day. They must train their minds to want to get better and become great. They must climb each step and conquer themselves in order to get to the top floor. It's not easy, but life is not easy.

D. Confidence- Sports is a natural confidence builder. If you feel confident in a sport and understand that you are an athlete, you can go into a room and overcome any shyness that you have. As you become more popular, it gives you the confidence away from the court and people are attracted to you because they can see the confidence you have about yourself.

By the way all of these go back to the workforce of being a good teammate, being ready and able to compete, staying patient until your time comes to shine and showing confidence. Any boss will want a person with those four characters working in his/her company.

2. I also talked about Japanese parents. I lived in Japan for 25 years and have a great respect and understanding of the Japanese culture. Many parents were controlled by their parents as a child and to be honest those parents did not like their parents making life decisions for them. Telling them which path they should take at every turn and every corner and so for many their lives are not what they would have chosen. However, the cycle continues where parents continue to decide what their children will be. So when a parent says they can't see the NBA as a future for their child, I understand that. It is a far reach, however, it is still the child's vision and not the parent's. I understand that it is expensive to send a child to America or even a camp in Japan, but think of the memories and opportunities you have given your child. It's not about the NBA, it's about lasting childhood memories plus teamwork, competition, patience and confidence.

Let your child DREAM BIG DREAMS.
See how far their vision can go.
Let them Change The World!!!!
